The Island of San Giorgio Maggiore (view from the Piazetta)
San Giorgio Maggiore is today a venue for conferences and cultural events. If you have time, do not hesitate to visit the homonymous church. The interior hosts canvases by Tintoretto, Palma the Younger and Jacopo Bassano. The island was abandoned in 1807, following the suppression by Napoleon of religious orders.

The door and the shadows

St Mark Square

Torcello Island
